I can’t wonder without—
wander on,
tail-wagged across the yard,

sounds
to shoot off about.

waddle,
happy on a hinge,
smacking the air—

a salvaged soul,
left in the rain,
now your tongue out,
taking in the sun.

a ding for access,
a yap for attention—
snap me out of the trees.

little snoopy duper—
flitting faster than resentment,

the bureaucracy caught ya—
we had an opening at the inn.

early morning,
paperwork,
an anxious daughter—

this warmth
back into our home.

I can’t believe
anyone would leave you like that.

I love you,
little friend.

vocalize the name—
watch that smirk-wave
break across us.

silly girl—
staring right through my heart.
