  "content_text": "Honesty is not only a binary virtue.\n\nIt is also a setting:\n\nHow much reality is this system presently capable of admitting without distorting, hiding, performing, or collapsing?\n\nThat system might be a person.\n\nA relationship.\n\nA team.\n\nAn institution.\n\nA story we have been telling for so long that we mistake its continuity for its truth.\n\nThe settings begin with questions.\n\nWhat do I know?\n\nWhat am I inferring?\n\nWhat do I want to be true?\n\nWhat am I afraid is true?\n\nWhat am I omitting?\n\nWhat am I performing?\n\nWhat does my current posture make difficult to perceive?\n\nWhat telemetry would change my mind?\n\nWhat am I unwilling to concede?\n\nWhat does the other party know that I cannot access?\n\nWhat does the body know that parliament keeps overruling?\n\nWhat does continuation require me to pretend?\n\nAnd:\n\nHow much truth can this relationship carry without breaking?\n\nMaximum disclosure is not necessarily maximum honesty.\n\nDumping every unprocessed impulse onto another person may only be discharge. Honest operation asks for accuracy, proportion, context, timing, ownership, and good faith.\n\nThere may be several settings inside the setting.\n\nSignal fidelity\n\nAm I reporting what I actually perceive?\n\nEpistemic humility\n\nDo I distinguish knowing from interpreting?\n\nMotive visibility\n\nCan I admit what I want from this?\n\nCost visibility\n\nAm I showing who pays for my preferred outcome?\n\nConcession\n\nCan incoming telemetry alter my account?\n\nSelf-implication\n\nHave I included myself in the system I am criticizing?\n\nRelational capacity\n\nCan I tell the truth without unnecessarily destroying access?\n\nReality contact\n\nAm I managing what is, or defending the story I need?\n\nPerfect truth is not available to us.\n\nBut maximum available candor about our actual position—with the consequence left attached—can change the state of a system.\n\nThe aim is not to turn honesty high enough to win.\n\nSet honesty high enough that the argument is allowed to change.\n\nHigh enough to update reality.",
